American Marketing….

It made me angry and mad at big store <name withheld> today…the lady at the counter said “Would you like to save children? Its a dollar…”…well…First, i it was that cheap, i would have done it a while ago…second, it was obvious from the signs by her that they were collecting for charity…but thats no way to ask a question….no person with the heart in the right place would say “no”…

But I did. Said “No”. My reasoning is simple – When <big store> gives their collection to the charity – they dont use my name (and all the others who donated)…- They keep the publicity to themselves….Not to mention the benefits of Taxes….

Thank you very much…i give my own charity, when i feel like it – And its definitely more than a dollar!

Now…if they only stop asking that stupid question “Are you sure, you are declining liability insurance? huh? Sign 5 times here and initial 3 times here…and be ready to pay your deductable when you drop the car off…”

Well thats a strange way to look at it IMHO. If I ever give to charity I’d rather nobody knew about it. There is a saying that goes something like this “the left hand does not know what the right hand did” meaning that you give discreetly and not inorder to gain publicity.

You are correct….I always tell the cashier no, the best part is, when I was in retail many moons ago…..there were always contests for the employees to “encourage” them to get as many donations as possible. I just tell the person, ” No thank you, I already donate.” which is not a lie, I donate via my work site through payroll deduction.

I did have one cashier sarcastically reply with, ” well….I’ll bet you do…” I reported her to the store manager, telling him I don’t have to explain what I do with my money in their store to their cashier.
