iPod Adapter Installation

Well, i am not sure if this interests any…but, Ford Fusion 2006 finally has an ipod adapter…get it here or on eBay – Its made by Peripheral Electronics. Once you get it, installation is a snap…although you can get it done at your local audio shop. I did install it myself…if you are curious on how to do this yourself, be sure to check out the manual from the seller’s website link above. Its however, does not have one thing – how to remove your stereo. So, here goes…thanks to Mauricio from Bridgewater Autobody, this is easy…

See pictures below for details:

Step 1: Pry open the bezel surrounding the stereo. There is a small connector holding the passenger side airbag indicator. Remove it first so that whole thing can be opened. See picture below on it looks like once opened.

Step 2: The stereo is held by four 7mm bolts. You will need to remove it, and the whole thing moves out. Remove the 2 connectors holding the stereo. See picture below.

Step 3: As you can see from above, there is plenty of space here. You can even stick your Adapter right on top..but, i decided not to do this because of heat…it gets pretty icky inside in the summer…I installed it in the glove box, which has easy access from here.

Step 4: You are all set! thats it…test it, find a place to put your iPod. You can easily snake the cable to have the iPod resting in your armrest. Pop the bezel back…and enjoy!

Thanks for this page. I just did this myself using you instructions. I wanted a hard line in to my stereo system so I could easliy switch between my mp3 player and satalite radio. This worked perfect! Thanks again.

Glad that it helped! Next step is to replace factory speakers…

Just purchased a 2007 Fusion SEL, and this article played a big role in my decision based on the iPod interface you installed. I do have one question, since installing the iPod2Car kit tonight (bought the iSimple kit @ BestBuy) I can’t find any instructions on how to pause playback without either switching media types or turning off the radio all together. I thought the makers would see the simplicity in binding the preset #6 button (the one with the play and pause icons printed on it) to that function, but alas its for shuffle… while the shuffle preset #5 button is for repeat (nice.). Other than the clumsy use of the radio’s interface the sound quality is great, but the lack of a pause button will make using this difficult for me as I routinely need to field calls in the car and constantly turning on and off the radio doesn’t seem like a great idea.

Hi. i just tried to take the stereo out of my car. But the cable connecting to it seems to be too short for me to take it out. Do you unplug them before you take the stereo out?
    thanks

Thanks for the instructions. I used them to install the FRD04-aux in my Fusion and it works great.
