Have you heard of impulse buys? being a gadget freak that i am…i saw this recently on one of my colleague’s desk…and i said, i must have it. Thank god for Internet shopping!
Needless to say, i am happy about it…in fact, obsessed about it. This replaced a static picture frame of my son on the desk – I have had it for more than an year, they say some memories are good for life…the picture i had was one such. I never grew sick of seeing it.
Not so with this new digital frame, Waiting for the picture to change was too much for me…I have it now setup to rotate pictures in random every 30 seconds, and eagerly anticpate what the next picture will be. I am obsessed with what the picture frame will pick next to display for me? with a series of questions right after it shows the next one…Why the heck did it display this?
I had never gazed at any picture frame for hours as i do now…This is as much of a waste of time as Internet surfing is…i think i should go back to putting that regular old picture frame on my desk…
I am not sure about you guys (and girls) out there…but here goes it – When we men, see each other (eg. colleagues) in the restroom (bathroom/toilet for the un-american) here is how it the converstaion looks like:
Me: Howz it goin?
Him: good. and you?
Me: good.
hmmm…..
Him: Hows work today? keeping you busy?
Me: yeah. You know.
Him: its good…he he…job security…
Me: yes…he he..
hmm….flush…..wash…head out.
Well, here is a simple experiment: Repeat this above procedure with anyone, and let me know if you get similar responses.
On a different note, Have you ever wondered why *ALL* volkswagen bug drivers, male or female – sport a plastic flower next to their steering wheel…
Travel channel aired 2 shows recently about Anthony Bourdain, one my my favourite chefs. He was in Calcutta, Mumbai and a few other places (Goa i think). Here is an article about it. Whats more interesting is his take on Cricket. This is very entertaining. Take a look.
I thought, i will recap my thoughts for the week in a single article…so, here goes…
Well, The biggest thing this week was this announcement from bill@Micro$oft about his retirement, which probably means "Move over Angelina Jolie!" – the new Time magazine humanitarian of the year for 2006 is here….possibly looking at a Nobel Peace prize next year…(Remember, you heard it here first!) I have been meaning to write about this…and finally this article triggered it. Read it first before proceeding.
Rewind a few thousand years. When civilization was in its infancy (i am not even sure the country was called "India" back then), the words "vegetarian", "vegan" and such didnt exist, and it possibly strike to people living that they ate fruits, vegetables or meat. I am sure they just ate what-ever. Beef or not.
Fast forward a few thousand years to about 1000AD. A fascinating book (Must read) called Curry, details the influence on food of many a foreigners to indian soil. Including the new world vegetables such as tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant (brinjal), okra (ladies finger) and such. I am sure, most food we eat are modern foods from that perspective. A recent article on near death experience (NDE) indicates that scientific theory supports the fact that people that went through a NDE are speaking truth about seeing things from floating above their bodies and such. I remember reading about Adi Shankara that he did experience a near-death experience in his childhood, when a crocodile gripped his leg and began to drag him into water. Maybe – this changed things in him so much, that he became altruistic (like the article says), triggering his entry into sanyasa.
Normally, i wouldnt like to talk about things that other sites mention. However, here goes my take on things -
Today's announcement of Bill Gates's retirement prompted me to step back and think. What is their strategy? why are they doing this? whats up with Sony? Apple? Where is IBM? Kodak? HP? Who is this new player called LG? Samsung?
It appears that all things are moving towards a single goal – and that everyone has the same strategy. The ever growing quest for global dominance. Read the rest of this entry »
Back in late 2000, a novel japanese engineer figured out a way to suspend your computer session (at work), ship it to somewhere else (hard disk), and restore the session so that you can start using your familiar environment on your home computer. This was and is a very useful piece of technology.
